Sarah Bates is a Graduate Research Assistant at the Water Institute at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC). As a Civil Engineering undergraduate, Sarah worked with a grassroots non-profit to investigate water scarcity concerns in a community in Kerala, India. After graduating in 2017, Sarah worked as a Water Resources Engineer at AECOM, where she designed Green Stormwater Infrastructure to reduce combined sewer overflow as a consultant for Philadelphia Water Department’s Green City, Clean Waters initiative. Her work at AECOM also focused on hydraulic and hydrologic modelling, and stormwater compliance. Sarah is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Public Health at the Gillings School of Global Public Health at UNC in the Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering.
